ClIMATE REALITY

AND WHY WE BELIEVE DEEPLY IN WHAT WE DO

Why is this so important

"Man has an invincible inclination to allow himself to be deceived" - Friedrich Nietzsche

There are wealthy energy interests in the U.S. who want us to continue to burn oil and coal. With alternative energy and a green future, they stand to lose billions of dollars.  They have energy reserves that are in peril and they know that if society shifts its view and decides to put a tax on carbon, they would stand to loose billions in valuation as consumer demand shifts away from hydrocarbons.

These energy concerns are  spending millions of dollars to perpetuate a myth that climate change does not exists. (It is a similar strategy deployed by large tobacco firms who created doubt that there was a link between smoking and cancer, as a contravailing force to the shifting views in society around the dangers of smoking.)

This Video Shows Increasing Earth Surface Temperatures.

There is no doubt. Climate change is caused in large measure by people.  97% of all climate scientist concur and agree that we are undergoing significant climate change.  The remaining 3% of the scientists are likely shills for big business and are getting funded to create doubt.  A contrarian view to the hard facts of science is a way to ensure that their funding streams remain.

This also is the case in the political sphere where the most egregious violator of this is Senator Imhofe of Oklahoma, who gains handsomely with his contrarian views both by selling his book (The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future) and in campaign finance contributions.  In 2014 Imhofe received $265,300 from Oil & Gas, $90,500 from Electric Utilities, $78,800 from the Coal/Mining industry and more from assorted other energy intensive businesses.  Imhofe has conveniently positioned himself as the head of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to no doubt perpetuate more obstructions in Congress. Imhofe has been one of the most obstructive Senators to meaningful climate change legislation.

The United States has about 4% of the worlds population, yet we consume  26% of the hydrocarbons. The rapid ascent of China, India, Brazil and to a lessor degree Africa and Russia is putting increased pressure on the environment. Many more people in the world are adopting a consumption oriented life style similar to ours. The Earth can not handle this increased demand for energy, material, food and water resources.  Consumption  patterns and demands will have to change.

It requires that we all make change -- we each have a responsibility to reduce our energy consumption and environmental impacts. The good news is that each of us has the power to make a difference and it starts with change - changes made at home.

Many of the environmental computer models were not designed to reflect these feedback loops. As they are being revised scientist are astonished to learn that they are accelerating the dire predictions of 50-100 years out.

Consider that:

- Buildings consume 40 percent of the nearly 100 quadrillion Btus (quads) of energy the United States consumes annually.

- 71% of the electricity and 53% of the natural gas used in the United States go into buildings.

Climate Change is Here and is Causing Major Problems

- India has a middle class population of 350 million, larger then the entire population of the U.S. Many of these people can now afford to buy the Nano (a $2500 USD car from Tata) for the very first time.

- Energy demands from China are increasing at astounding rates. China's energy consumption has more then doubled in less than a decade. China has emerged from being a net oil exporter in the 1990's to become the world's third largest net importer of oil in 2006.

- It is estimated that the earth can only sustain 1 billion people who consume energy and pollute at the levels that we do in the United States. The worlds population is currently 6.76 billion people and is expected to rise significantly over the next decades.

- The air outside in many cases is cleaner than the air in our homes. The United States has an asthma rate that is almost 10 times that of China.

- Scientists agree that the environment is in peril if we don't reduce our CO2 emissions.

- You can make a difference!

It seems that the global environmental impacts are accelerating from what is referred to as a  'feedback loop'. One such example is the melting ice cap, which is exposing permafrost, which is melting to release methane (that is 20 time more detrimental to global warming than CO2).

Glaciers are melting and forming moulins, that are lubricating the strata between the ice and bedrock, thereby accelerating the glacier flow.

Our Services

ASSESSMENTS

We provide free energy assessments.  As State of Minnesota certified energy auditors we have the tools and resources  to provide valued insight and perspectives.

AIR SEALING

Considerable detail goes into sealing the building envelope. We adhere to 'best practices' and this work is done prior to insulating.

INSULATION

We specialize in cellulose and closed cell foam as we have found these to be superior insulation materials. We often avoid fiberglass . Ask us why.

WINDOW SEAL

We provide a way to greatly improve the efficiency of your existing windows, but at a fraction of the cost of replacements.
