Closed cell spray foam insulation is a wonderful material for making your home or building exceptionally tight and efficient. Our material brings R7 per inch and an exceptional air as well as moisture barrier.

Knowledge and experience of foam application is very important. We bring over a decade of experience spraying closed cell foam insulation.

There are 2 materials that make up closed cell spray foam insulation. The materials are the poly iso and the resin. It is very important that these two materials be delivered in the same quantities. Failure to do this, results in an outcome that is substandard and in some situations requires that the insulation has to be pulled out. (The internet is loaded with examples of failed foam projects).


Knowledge and experience is very important but what we determined is that it is also critically important to have the right equipment. What we have observed is that a lack of power is at the root cause of many of the problems contractors experience when spraying foam. There is a substantial investment required to spray foam properly. The foam must be applied with consistent pressure and high temperatures to ensure that the result is balanced, consistent and high quality. A considerable amount of power must be available to the machines that spray the foam, that generate the heat, hydraulic pressure and pneumatics. Our hoses are heated, which requires even more power. To reduce cost most foam rigs have under 20,000 watts of power. We built ours with a 40,000 watts diesel generator which provides enough power for our equipement and considerable power to spare.

We invested in a 40,000 watt generator to ensure that we can provide consistent and substantial energy to meet the needs for balanced temperatures of the materials (the polyiso and the resin) as well as consistently balanced pressures. The end result is a very high quality outcome and work product.

Closed cell spray polyurethane foam (SPF) is a superor product, especially in our cold Minnesota climate.

There is another type of foam, which is open cell foam and this material should not be used on the thermal envelope of a home or building in our climate. We've had situations in the past where we had to go into a home and make repairs on another insulation contractors work. They applied open cell foam in the attic and the home owner was experiencing significant moisture issues.

Closed cell foam brings R7 per inch and the R value is addative, so 4 inches of closed cell foam brings you R28.


Closed cell foam is structural and adds considerable strength to a building.

Attics in our region are required to have R50 at a minimum. Although closed cell foam is a wondeful material for air sealing we would typically not recommend adding R50 of foam. The reason is that it would be far more economical to achieve the air seal with a smaller amount of foam and then fortify the R value with the less expensive material cellulose. There are closed cell foam formulas that use blowing agents that are better for the ozone. We can make this material available for our clients.

Before energy conservation and mitigation work is done, it is important to have a solid understanding of what the issues and problems are in the home or building. We are state of Minnesota certified energy auditors. We don't simply offer recommendations but do the actual work with our own teams, employed directly by us. Unlike others that propose solutions and then hand the work off to 3rd parties, we feel it is much better to own the work product and outcomes. We employ our own resources, they have been highly trained and importantly we have done thousands of weatherization projects which provides us with deep insights and best practice knowledge.
